Summary The project will develop modelling theories and techniques, analyses and simulation of complex biological systems based on process algebras. It will use the characteristics of composability to obtain tools that are scalable and adaptable to the mass of biological data that is produced with high-throughput tools. The project will begin with the definition of the primitives that are inspired by biology and the examination of the state-of-the-art of the public databases that memorize the principal biological information available. On the basis of what we have obtained we will continue by defining (semi-) automatic translation mechanisms for the SBML models that are memorized in the databases of process algebras and we will develop prototypes for the simulation and analyses of these models. In this phase we will also explore the possibility of influencing the standards of the representation of the dynamics of biological systems. Lastly, we will work with experimental laboratories in order to directly acquire the data produced by their validation of our models and to carry out simulations of real case studies so as to synthesize the techniques and tools we propose with the biological reality.
