Dissemination and education

CoSBi’s success is largely determined by the extent of the usage of the developed conceptual tools and computational framework by life scientists. Moreover, algorithmic systems biology is strongly interdisciplinary and requires competencies in various areas such as computer science, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Both aspects require extensive dissemination activities to make the scientific community aware of progress, as well as education activities to help the development of researchers who are able to manage computer science tools and concepts to enhance/enable the research activity of its own applicative domain.

Software Architecture, Development, Maintenance and Optimization

The conceptual tools and the theory developed by algorithmic systems biology research need to be transformed into computational tools that are usable by life scientists. We de-coupled the implementation issues from the conceptual and specification ones to assess the feasibility of the ideas and to integrate them into a coherent software framework according to the priorities of the driving biological case studies. In particular, we investigate whether existing tools developed at CoSBi can address the issues raised by research or if we can easily integrate the needed features. If the latter is the case, we plan the needed activities, or otherwise we start considering the development of new theories and tools.
