technical report Spatio-temporal dynamics of reaction diffusion systems: stochastic simulation of the bicoid gradient in Drosophila embryo


We modelled and simulated with software Redi (Reaction-Diffusion simulator) the observed gradient of the bicoid protein in the Drosophila Melanogaster embryo. We reproduced with an accuracy of 1% its experimental spatio-temporal dynamics, as recorded in a time-lapse experiment obtained by direct measurements of transgenic bicoid-enhanced green fluorescent protein. We characterized the dynamic properties of the bicoid gradient, such as predicting the kinetic rate of production and degradation, and range of variability of the average diffusion coefficient.
