This COSBI’s publication introduces a multiscale quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) model that captures the complexity of the immune response to mRNA vaccines. The model integrates key processes—including mRNA translation, antigen presentation, innate immune activation, and adaptive response—supporting in silico vaccine optimization across different dosing regimens and formulations.

By simulating immune dynamics from molecular to systemic levels, this work offers a robust tool to inform and accelerate mRNA vaccine development.

Congratulations to the COSBI authors Stefano Giampiccolo, Elisa Pettinà, Lorena Leonardelli, Elio Campanile, and Luca Marchetti; along with the contributions fromthe authors of University of Trento Giada Fiandaca, Lorenzo Dasti, and Natascia Zangani for successfully publish this work in collaboration with Fabio De Lima Hedayioglu (University of Kent). The research was carried out within the framework of the Wellcome Leap R3 program, which aims to accelerate progress in pandemic preparedness through cutting-edge respiratory health research.
