Reflecting on the Future of Science

As summer approaches, many members of the COSBI team are preparing for a well-deserved break before returning to new research projects and scientific challenges. This week, colleagues came together for the traditional COSBI summer aperitif, an opportunity to spend time together outside the laboratory and celebrate another productive first half of the year.
At COSBI, we believe that scientific excellence depends not only on expertise and collaboration, but also on giving researchers the opportunity to rest and recharge. For this reason, team members are encouraged to take at least two consecutive weeks of summer vacation, choosing the period that best suits their personal needs between June and September.
Rather than defining a fixed institute-wide closure, this flexible approach allows everyone to organize their summer according to their own circumstances—whether that means spending time with family, travelling, visiting relatives abroad, or simply enjoying a quieter period for a proper break.
Supporting work-life balance is part of COSBI’s research culture. Taking time to disconnect helps researchers return with renewed energy, fresh ideas, and the motivation to tackle new scientific challenges.
We wish all our colleagues, collaborators, and friends a relaxing and enjoyable summer, and we look forward to continuing our research together after the break.
