Elio Campanile and Alex De Nardi

From 13 to 17 July 2026, COSBI will participate in the European Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ECMTB 2026) in Graz, Austria, one of Europe’s leading conferences dedicated to mathematical modelling in the life sciences.

This year, COSBI researchers will contribute with three oral presentations and the organization of a scientific minisymposium, highlighting the institute’s expertise in computational biology, pharmacology, oncology, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Elio Campanile will present two talks:

  • A Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic (PBPK) Model of Whole-Body CAR T-Cell Trafficking in Humans, introducing a mechanistic PBPK framework developed in collaboration with the Mathematical Oncology Laboratory (MOLAB, Spain) to support CAR T-cell therapy optimization.
  • A Multiscale Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic Model for mRNA-Encoded Therapeutics: Preclinical Predictions and Translational Perspectives, presenting a multiscale PBPK model designed to investigate the pharmacokinetics of mRNA-encoded therapeutics and support their translation from preclinical studies to clinical applications.

Alex De Nardi will present “Linking Aggrephagy and mTOR Signaling in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A Minimal ODE Model,” describing a mathematical model that investigates the relationship between aggrephagy and mTOR signalling in ALS.

In addition, Elio Campanile, together with David Morselli (UCL) is co-organizing the minisymposium “Mathematical Models of Tumour-Immune Interactions and Cancer Evolution”, bringing together international researchers to discuss mathematical and computational approaches for cancer immunotherapy and tumour evolution.

ECMTB 2026 provides an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with the international mathematical biology community and strengthen collaborations across disciplines.
