Celebrating Rovereto's Heritage and Traditions

Today, August 5th, the city of Rovereto celebrates its patron saint, Maria Ausiliatrice (Mary Help of Christians).

This centuries-old tradition dates back to 1703, when the city, under threat of attack by French troops, made a vow to the Virgin Mary: if spared, it would celebrate her every year. Rovereto was indeed saved — and since then, every August 5th, the city renews its gratitude with a day of celebration and reflection.

Festivities began yesterday evening, August 4th, with a concert by the Musica Cittadina Riccardo Zandonai in Piazza San Marco. Today, celebrations continue with processions, religious moments, and a shared community dinner open to all in Via della Terra (see event details here).

COSBI experiences this local tradition up close, being located in the heart of Rovereto within the historic Manifattura Tabacchi — now transformed into a hub for green and circular innovation through the Progetto Manifattura.

It’s a place where scientific research and sustainable entrepreneurship meet the history and identity of the city.

Happy celebration to all Rovereto residents — and to everyone who helps keep this tradition alive year after year!
