Using QSP approaches to investigate α-synuclein dynamics and brain pharmacokinetics

As part of COSBI’s Internal Talk Series, Elena Righetti presented the results of her PhD research on the mechanistic modeling of α-synuclein aggregation and brain pharmacokinetics in the context of drug development for Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.

Elena’s work demonstrates how Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) and mechanistic modeling can help unravel the complex interactions that drive neurodegeneration. By linking molecular processes with brain-level pharmacokinetics and potential clinical outcomes, her research underscores the importance of developing reliable models capable of capturing key biological mechanisms and supporting the estimation of drug exposure in the brain.

These internal presentations play a valuable role in fostering interdisciplinary exchange within COSBI, connecting expertise in biology, mathematics, and data science to advance our understanding of disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies.

We look forward to sharing more research highlights from our Internal Talk Series.
