Internal Seminar

COSBI PhD student Alex De Nardi presented an internal seminar on his latest research focused on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Starting from insights derived from clinical data, Alex developed an ODE-based mathematical model aimed at capturing key aspects of autophagy in neurodegeneration. His work illustrates how mechanistic modeling approaches can bridge biological understanding with quantitative, testable hypotheses, helping to interpret complex disease processes.

The seminar also highlighted the broader role of computational and systems biology approaches in studying neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS, where disease progression arises from multiple interacting mechanisms and direct in vivo observation remains challenging.

This work represents a valuable example of how quantitative modeling can contribute to advancing neurodegeneration research and support future therapeutic investigations.
