COSBI is pleased to announce a new fully funded PhD opportunity within the 42nd Cycle of the PhD Programme in Mathematics at the University of Trento, through a thematic scholarship dedicated to Mechanistic and Quantitative Systems Pharmacology Modelling for Complex Diseases. The position is part of the 2026/2027 doctoral programme and applications are open until 20 June 2026 at 16:00 (Italian time).
The project offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of applied mathematics, computational biology, systems pharmacology, and drug development, contributing to the advancement of model-informed approaches for understanding complex diseases and supporting innovative therapeutic strategies.
The selected candidate will join COSBI’s Systems Pharmacology Group, a multidisciplinary research team focused on the development of mechanistic and quantitative models to investigate biological systems across multiple scales. Research activities will involve mathematical modeling, dynamical systems, parameter estimation, uncertainty quantification, and computational methods for biomedical applications.
The scholarship is particularly suited for students with a background in Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Modeling, Computational Sciences, Physics, Engineering, or related quantitative disciplines who are interested in applying mathematical methods to real-world challenges in medicine and pharmaceutical research.
This initiative further strengthens the long-standing collaboration between COSBI (Fondazione The Microsoft Research – University of Trento Centre for Computational and Systems Biology) and the University of Trento, fostering interdisciplinary research at the interface between mathematics, biology, and healthcare innovation.
We encourage interested students and early-career researchers to apply and help us spread the word within the scientific community.
