COSBI’s Commitment to Brain Health and Neurodegeneration Research

World Brain Day was celebrated on July 22nd – but for COSBI, every day is about advancing knowledge to tackle neurological disorders.

Our ongoing projects include:

– Development of two Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) models for neurodegeneration to support clinical studies that use neurofilament (NF) and synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) as biomarkers in ALS and SMA disease, projects led by Alessio Paris (COSBI) in collaboration with Biogen.

In parallel, PhD student Alex De Nardi in collaboration with jessica mandrioli (Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia) are enhancing this topic through basic research. Alex De Nardi recently presented a poster at @ENCALS 2025, catch up with our Linkedin post describing it!

– Parkinson’s research by Elena Righetti and Federico Reali, with this recent paper on alpha-synuclein aggregation, supporting their previous publication (worth reading both).

Thanks to PhD student Martina Chiesa, this model is being extended to the cellular level, focusing on degradation processes. COSBI is proud to contribute to understanding neurodegeneration through innovative computational modeling.
